Sam Temple.

Sam Temple is the main protagonist of the series. He is one of the four avatars Astrid sees in Little Pete's game. Sam has the ability to shot laser-like lights from the palm of his hands.He is a "four bar" along with his twin brother, Caine.

Sam is of medium build with tanned skin, has brown hair and streaks of blonde, has sky blue eyes and is described as being quite handsome. Sam is also described as being happy-go-lucky. He remained under the social radar at school, not belonging to any clique, and having only one true friend, Quinn.

"Im just a kid.."

Astrid Ellison.

Astrid Ellison is 14 years old(15 years old in Light). She is Sam Temple's girlfriend for pretty much all of the books. She is beautiful and smart. She has blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She was the one who pushed Sam into leading, and in the end they live together.

"Am I losing faith?"

Caine Soren.

Caine Soren is the antagonist of the series. He is the son of Connie Temple and Taegan Smith. He has dark hair and eyes, in contrast to his twin brother, Sam Temple. Caine has telekinetic power and is a "four bar"

Before the FAYZ, Caine lived with his adoptive parents and went to Coate's Academy. He is romantically involved with a fellow Coates Academy student, Diana Ladris.

"What? It's true, I am ambitious."

Diana Ladris.

Diana Ladris is a fourteen-year-old girl from Coates Academy, mostly known for her beautiful and seductive appearance. She is a "two bar" with her ability to sense and measure powers from other mutants. She is often called a "witch" by the other FAYZ residents and has shown herself to be selfish and deceitful.

At Coates, Diana met Caine. She used his infatuation with her to her advantage. The two were accomplices from the start. Diana was the first person Caine told about his power. Later, to Diana’s displeasure, Drake joined their group.

"Time to do the right thing. Even if it's for the wrong reason."

Drake Merwin.

Drake is described as being very strong, he has sandy coloured hair that is shaggy, with cold, gray eyes. His smile is often referred to as shark like - "too little humour, too many teeth", and he is depicted to be good-looking. When he gains his whip, it is five to ten feet long and is the color of dried blood. It is seen constantly moving. The normal resting place of said whip hand is around Drake's waist.

"It's not about who's got powers, moron. It's about who's not afraid. And who's going to do what has to be done."

Edilio Escobar.

Edilio was originally from Honduras, until he moved to Perdido Beach as an immigrant. People also continually make fun of him and confuse him for being Mexican, often called wetback. He is described as a medium height 14-year old ethnic boy, with light skin and deep brown eyes. Edilio does not possess any power however he does have a strong impression on the people in town. He is Sam's most trusted ally, and is considered one of his closest friend.

"You hit a girl, man? Not cool."

Lana Arwen Lazar.

Lana Arwen Lazar is a Native American teenage girl living in the FAYZ. She has the Power of healing. Lana is the only "freak" not labeled as one by everyone, mostly because of her healing ability which is a "three bar". Because of this, she becomes one of the most important people in the FAYZ. It is said that Lana's dog, Patrick, is the only remaining pet of the FAYZ, since no one would dare kill the Healer's dog. Lana is the only known person who has been able to withstand the horrible illusions from Penny, due to her long time with the Gaiaphage.

"Hello darkness, my old friend."

Brianna "The Breeze".

Brianna is a 13 year old 3 bar in FAYZ. She has reddish hair, usually tied back in pigtails, stating this is the best way to keep it out of her eyes when she runs. Brianna likes to call herself "the Breeze" due to her super-speed ability. Dekka Talent, being a lesbian, has a crush on her. She is one of the main characters in the book.

"And you know, of course, that I can slap you eight times before you blink, right?"

Albert Hillsborough.

Albert Hillsborough is a fourteen-year-old African-American student in charge of food, water, and work in Perdido Beach. He is considered by many to be the most powerful person in the FAYZ. He later retreats to the luxurious island of San Francisco de Sales. He is a true "businessman" despite his young age, and can be selfish and somewhat of a coward, but he is clever and powerful. He is the inventor of the official payment form in FAYZ until they start to become worthless in Fear. He often has been called the "Donald Trump" of the FAYZ, because of his wealth and enterprising.

"Just running the town."

Dekka Talent.

Dekka is fifteen year-old, tall, black girl. She is, according to Brianna, curvy although she doesn't "show it off". She does not dress very femininely and prefers to wear what she finds comfortable. Dekka is found intimidating by most of the kids because of not only her power of cancelling gravity and close relationship with Sam, but also for her strong physique.

"Yes, sure. Me and Beyonce."
